White Webb

Modern Country House

1 Oct

Modern Country House

Concrete, steel and glass may strike some as cold, but in the hands of White Webb, it’s anything but. For this weekend home in upstate New York, we emphasized the connection to the outdoors by establishing a foundation of natural materials (linens, leathers, and warm woods), which we layered with verdant greens and other poppy colors from the landscape. Bold, contemporary artwork anchors the rooms while creative contrasts – such as the pairing of a sinuous Kagan sofa with a birch log coffee table or a lacquered Fornasetti dining table with more austere, leather-clad Klismos chairs – make for a vibrant interior that is uncluttered, but far from minimal.

A most welcome coastal disturbance. Absolutely he A most welcome coastal disturbance. Absolutely head over heels for this modernist masterpiece designed in 1968 by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, France. Villa Nara Mondadori was commissioned by the head of Mondadori Publishing and named for his wife. After their deaths, it sat unoccupied for almost a decade before being purchased by art collectors in the 1990s, who hired Peter Marino (@petermarinoarchitect) to bring it back to life.
