Park Avenue Chic

3 Aug

Park Avenue Chic

Despite its location in a classic, Park Avenue pre-war building, this apartment’s original architectural details had been removed long ago. Rather than try to reinvent history, we settled on a design scheme that paid gentle homage to the past while injecting a healthy dose of the modern. By introducing rich, walnut woodwork throughout the apartment, we added an architectural detail that nods to the building’s earlier grandeur, but whose clean lines speak to today. To lend an air of luxe, we paired vintage Persian carpets with sleek Art Deco and mid-century Italian furnishings, and we illuminated the scene with lacquered walls and shimmering Venetian lighting. A largely neutral palette unifies the apartment, but is enlivened with bold pops of color in textiles and contemporary art. Thanks to well-considered design alchemy, this Park Avenue dowager is experiencing a whole new lease on life.

Matthew came to his passion for beautiful “dishes” Matthew came to his passion for beautiful “dishes” naturally. The most profound gift from his mother and grandmother, and later by “Ed & Tony” was their embrace and encouragement in the development of his eye. Mentorship is everything. Btw, the Davenport part dessert service was made between c1800-1815. That’s well over 200 years of this extraordinary pearlware set existing somewhat intact. The painted scenes tell us it was likely created for an English country house. #antiques #antiqueceramics
