White Webb

English Arts & Crafts

28 Jan

English Arts & Crafts

For a historic house in Pasadena, California, we breathed new life into the interiors by developing a design that harmoniously blended elements from yesterday and today.

On the National Register of Historic Places, the house was completed in 1899 by real estate developer George Stimson and is known as the Stimson-Thum House. Inspired by the English Arts & Crafts style, its straightforward porches and overhanging eaves reflect the simplicity and harmony with nature for which this architectural period is known.

To pay tribute to that history, White Webb sourced select antiques of that vintage and then intermixed contemporary furnishings and art to create a home that feels very much of today.  Sensitively combining elements of seemingly disparate styles, we designed interiors that feel eclectically vibrant yet cohesive.

Determined to start anew, the owner moved in with very little furnishings and requested that we create a design plan focused on architectural appropriateness, comfort, and an embrace of outdoor living.
