White Webb Designs Rooms at the Venerable Carlyle Hotel

Carlyle Hotel, Matthew White

The Carlyle Hotel, center of urban elegance for more than seven decades, will receive a stylish redo by Matthew White and Frank Webb. Abuzz with the history of Bobby Short, Jackie O and thousands of other luminaries who have passed through its halls, the Carlyle occupies a special place in the top tier of international hotels. With reverence for its esteemed past and an eye toward the future, White Webb will unleash their creative talents on the hotel’s banquet rooms. With their unique blending of historic style and modern swank, the design duo will refresh the spaces so they sparkle like the jewel boxes they are meant to be.

“It is thrill to be a part of the amazing roster of designers and artists who have worked at the Carlyle through the decades. From Dorothy Draper to great artists such as Bemelmans, the hotel has always been a center of chic in New York City.” said Matthew White.

Encompassing a large part of the second floor, the project will include an elevator vestibule, a central lobby and the Versailles and Trianon Rooms. “Our challenge is to give these spaces that signature Carlyle feel while bringing them squarely into the 21st century,” stated Frank Webb. Since the rooms do not possess strong architectural details, the designers plan to introduce innovative furnishings, unusual materials and surprising details to provide the necessary punch.

The central palette will be soft tones of cream, taupe, sage and chocolate with accents of mellow gilding and aged sliver leaf. When the rooms are complete they will be uniquely inviting–a perfect setting for the many occasions that they will undoubtedly hold.

Light is an incredibly important component of desi Light is an incredibly important component of design, and this home we designed on Manhattan’s Upper West Side maximizes its potential. Bathed with natural light thanks to a curving corner of windows, the room’s glow was further enhanced by a striking Murano glass chandelier, custom tin can lid artwork from Clare Graham, and mirrored end tables, all of which gently bounce the light in all directions. 📸 by @artgrayphoto #whitewebbinteriors #interiordesign #nycinteriors #nychomes #nycinteriordesigner #livingroomdesign #apartmentdesign
