White Webb

A House to Inhabit

Design Log

Home. It’s a big topic, and one especially close to our hearts, since what we do is all about helping create great places to live. Every individual has a different description of what home looks like and where it might be, but the concept is always the same. It’s a haven, a place to rest one’s head. One could call it a habitat for humanity.

Habitat for Humanity also happens to be a great non-profit organization that helps people realize the dream of owning a home. Famously supported by President Carter, it exists all over the country. Habitat for Humanity builds and renovates houses in partnership with volunteers and families in need, regardless of their ethnic or religious background. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged. In Hudson, NY, two homes were completed this year and designed by Barlis-Wedlick architects.

This one is a “passive” house, one of the most energy efficient Habitat Houses ever built. As it was nearing completion, architect Dennis Wedlick asked if the Hillsdale General Store, and White Webb Finds would furnish the place for a photo shoot. We were happy to oblige and here are the results. An attractive new home, filled with a few treasures to give it the feeling of home. We were thrilled to add the icing on this very appealing cake.

Soon after these photos were taken, the family moved in. In our business where large sums of money can be spent on houses, furnishings and finishes, it’s a refreshing reminder to look at this modest, yet beautifully designed house, and remember what home actually means.

As we mentioned in one of our recent blog posts, w As we mentioned in one of our recent blog posts, we’re firm believers in a room’s ceiling deserving just as much consideration as its walls. By way of example, check out this lovely ceiling we designed for a flower shop in New York’s Hudson Valley. By using antique engravings, we created a decorative frieze and center medallion to add a touch of whimsy to the design. 📸 by @artgrayphoto

We particularly love these bookcases that we designed to flank the upper tier of a double height living room in New York’s Hudson Valley. 📸 by @artgrayphoto #whitewebbinteriors #interiordesign #hudsonvalleyhomes #hudsonvalleyinteriordesigner #nycinteriordesigner #librarydesign #bookcasedesign #livingroomdesign
