Here’s a blast from the past in more ways than o Here’s a blast from the past in more ways than one. A number of years ago, some daring clients commissioned us to design a pair of garden benches in the mode of our former Intaglio furniture line. Starting with a fanciful, antique engraving, we magnified its scale and silk-screened it onto some monumental metal forms. Suddenly, an old design was given new life in a way that blurred the lines between traditional and modern.

🇮🇹You can stay at this aristocratic villa in the Veneto region of Italy, available for rent with @dimore_storiche_italiane from €10-€16K / week. Villa Emo Capodilista can sleep up to 12 in 7 bedrooms. With a commanding position within the La Montecchia wine estate, the villa is surrounded by vineyards and offers panoramic views over the Colli Euganei hills near Padua and Venice. The historic villa boasts lavish and light-filled reception rooms, frescoed loggias for alfresco dining, and manicured Italian gardens, where you can marvel at its striking late-Renaissance facade. Originally a hunting lodge, the villa was built in 1568, commissioned by Gabriele Capodilista and designed by Dario Variotari, a Renaissance painter, sculptor, and architect who apprenticed under Veronese, one of the most celebrated Venetian painters of his day. The villa features original 16th century hand-painted frescoed walls and 18th century trompe l'oeil works depicting the family history, ancient Roman depictions as well as mythological scenes, along with friezes and grotesques. The Mannerist frescoe works in the villa are attributed to Variotari and Aliense, grotesques by Eliodoro Forbincini, and a tragedy by Luigi Groto, engraved in the west loggia. There are 100 cherubs across the villa, said to protect all those who stay. The villa is still owned by the same family, and has been converted into an elegant country retreat with all of the modern luxuries. The villa is adjacent to its 14 acre walled garden with a private pool, and is available for rent with concierge service available to arrange a personal chef, wine tastings, housekeeping, or a round of golf at the 27-hole @golfdellamontecchia nearby. Italian art history lovers can find the listing link on the blog!
