A Celebration in Palazzo Barbaro

Design Log

26 Sep
Palazzo Barbaro

In late August I attended a gala in Venice that I (along with a tireless team of dear friends) helped plan for Save Venice. This is a biennial event that is key to our fund-raising efforts, which makes our mission to restore art in Venice possible.

Besides bringing together an incredible group of Venice lovers, Venice scholars and even a few Venice first-timers, the four-day gala is just plain fun. We celebrate the glorious art and architecture of Venice, all while enjoying lunches, dinners and balls in some of the most beautiful spaces in the world.

This year however, we had a rare treat ~ one that even in the world of Save Venice galas was a stand-out. We held a ball in the storied piano nobile of Palazzo Barbaro. Closed for more than 30 years, and known for being a background from films such as Wings of the Dove and Brideshead Revisited, Palazzo Barbaro holds a special place in the hearts of Americans who love Venice. Above is the ballroom just after a stunning concert that preceded dinner and dancing. For more information on the many restorations made possible by Save Venice, click HERE, or follow Save Venice onFacebook. To read more about the gala visit the New York Social Diary.
